This patch is intended to fix several stability issues that were encountered with the original Doom 3.
Doom is perhaps the first and most respected first-person shooter game in existence. Tracing its history mack to the early 1990s, Doom has since become a household name amongst avid gamers. Doom 3 was another variant within this franchise and while it was light years ahead of Doom 2, there were bound to be some bugs and errors along the way. This is partially due to the fact that it was first released in April of 2005. The Doom 3 patch is intended to address many of the glitches and other issues that would otherwise prove to be frustrating.
Issues Addressed
Some players reported (particularly those with Vista operating systems) that movements could be "jerky" and the weapons did not always function as they should have. These are the two main areas that have been addressed with the Doom 3 patch. However, it is important to keep in mind that there are currently two different patches available. These are the Doom 3 version 1.1 and the Doom 3 version 1.3.1 for Windows. These two mods may not work well with one another. For this reason, it is best to acquire the latest patch that is intended to address all of the major issues.
Multi-System Support
One factor that has been taken care of is the ability for Doom 3 to work with Windows Vista. This proved problematic in the past. Now, it can be integrated into Vista as well as other operating systems including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP and Windows 2000. It is likewise able to function with Mac OSX universal binaries as well as GNU/Linux x86 binaries.
Specifications
The Doom 3 patch is 17.42 megabytes in size; rather diminutive considering the amount of bugs that it is able to address and repair. It was originally released in October of 2007. As should already be obvious, Doom 3 will already have to be installed in order for this patch to function.
This patch is highly functional and lightweight; ideal for those looking to improve their gaming experience. Let's review the benefits and drawbacks involved.
Pros
- A lightweight file
- Fixes most of the major bugs and glitches found in Doom 3
